Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife

Letter from ODFW Commission

At the Commission meeting on Friday, the Commission adopted the staff recommended rules for allowing harvest of anchovies in select bays. The exhibit and rule language can be found at http://www.dfw.state.or.us/agency/commission/minutes/09/08_august/index.asp. The logbook is attached, though it is not yet printed. If people would like a logbook, we can simply print them out pages to complete until printed logbooks get here.

In summary the rule allows a vessel to use lampara net, purse seine, or hook and line to catch anchovies (only) to be used as bait on the catch vessel (meaning that the vessels cannot share catch or sell catch) in Tillamook, Yaquina, Winchester, and Coos Bays from July through October. Catch will not be recorded on fish tickets, and are exempted from the landing definition; however will need to be recorded on the logbook. Vessels will need to notify OSP 12 hours prior to fishing for anchovies by calling 1-800-452-7888 reporting the boat name and number, location of fishing, and estimated time of activity.

If you have any questions, please let me know.
